Dear Gus Franklin STEM Academy Parents, Guardians, Students and Community,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. This is Gus Franklin STEM Academy’s seventh school year. As you know we are starting our school year with distance learning. Please know that we will work with you to make sure your student is successful. We all will have to learn, unlearn and relearn (Toffler, 2012) how education will be experienced from the students’, parents’ and teachers’ perspective.
Our personal goal is to make sure that will work collectively so that there is clarity on how your child will learn. Be patient with us. We know that this is an emotional time. Share your experiences with us. It is ok to feel like you don’t know what’s happening. Yes, own that this feel chaotic. There is a Native American word, Napantla. Napantla means to be in the mist of chaos or confusion and allow you self to embrace learn and understand at the same. Take a step back and breathe; know that through this we will come out better as a community. Let’s embrace change together and do what’s best for our students, staff and teachers.
Our STEM curriculum is Project Lead the Way (PLTW) which is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). We will still provide this learning online. As teachers are reviewing the updated distance learning platform for PLTW we will update you on if you will need to stop by and grade supplies. Our goal is to have you travel as minimal as possible.
I want to personally thank you our community for making GFS one of the top performing schools in the Adelanto School District. Each year we grow in our own knowledge. We are honored to have you and your family as part of our learning community. Please remember that you are welcome to email me or contact the school at your convenience.
